The USA election is here. When all the votes are counted, some of us will rejoice that our candidate won, and some of us will be disappointed that our candidate lost. Now what do we do? Especially if our candidate lost! There is always an answer in prayer. Prayer that turns us to God as the true governing power over all mankind. In Christian Science, atonement is not brought about by the reparation of the person; it is the individual demonstration of the man that God has made perfect and eternal. “Who am I?” states the Golden Text for this week. What does that have to do with the reality of sin, disease, and death? It gets to the question of whether man is an idea of Spirit or a material object. The opening statement from Science and Health is, “God does not cause man to sin, to be sick, or to die” (page 206). So we are talking about man as an idea of Spirit, an idea that is not born and does not die, but lives eternally as the image of God’s goodness and might. Click the image for more.

Reality is symbolized by light. Isaiah 49 says, "You will tell the prisoners, 'Come out of your prison.' You will tell those in darkness, 'Come into the light.' The people will eat beside the roads. They will find food even on bare hills." To experience reality is to know Life, Truth, and Love with the certainty of light obliterating darkness. Is there more than one law of supply? No. The only law of supply is spiritual. We do not have to be troubled by human opinions of a material supply-and-demand imbalance. From beginning to end, the question of supply is a question of the supply of truth. And Truth, as taught in Christian Science, is the law of unending goodness and satisfaction. As Mrs. Eddy states, "For right reasoning there should be but one fact before the thought, namely, spiritual existence" (Science and Health, page 492). (Isaiah 44:10)

“Divine Science deals its chief blow at the supposed material foundations of life and intelligence. It dooms idolatry. A belief in other gods, other creators, and other creations must go down before Christian Science.” These opening words from Science and Health (page 535) in this week’s sermon summarize the case for Christian Science against the suggestion that matter is a self-constituted power. The word substance refers to whatever is real, tangible, and unimpeachable. How do we identify substance? The Bible makes it clear that substance is spiritual, not material. The reality of man is so different from the delusion of the material senses that we require a spiritual vision to see it clearly.
